Medievalbookshop — referral fee

Graphic design and typesetting service
Referral fee

The simple version:
Medievalbookshop is happy to offer a finder’s fee for sending work in this direction, at a standard rate of 5% of the final amount paid by the client for a job. So if the job’s worth £1, you get 5p — if you bring in £1000, you get £50.

The slightly more detailed small print version:
There’s no catch, but there are conditions, so please enquire before submitting a client, and please feel welcome to ask any questions you might have, using the contact link at the top of this page.

Statement of intent. The terms and conditions as stated on this page and throughout this web site should be construed as intending mutual benefit between the users or customers of this web site and its operators. If ambiguity exists it should be construed as intending the least possible harm loss or inconvenience to any party.

  • This offer is entirely honorary. In taking it up you agree that it has no contractual or other legal standing. In particular you agree that you will not commit money, resources or involvement of any kind without a go-ahead both from the proposed client AND from Medievalbookshop. You accept full and absolute liability for your own involvement: in particular you should note that proposing a client does not automatically mean that they will place any work, and in such instance and you should have a clear view beforehand as to whether your outgoings can be recouped if the 5% fee is not payable.

  • This offer is open until September 30th, 2015; the work does not have to be completed by that date, but either the client should place their commission or you should give notice that the commission can reasonably be expected. If successful, this offer may be extended or repeated. This paragraph gives notice that during its period of operation it may be cancelled, withdrawn or amended at any time and with no further notice of any kind.

  • The 5% is offered as an introduction fee, so is available strictly once per paying client. It is based on the final value of the first commission they confirm, by formal date of its acceptance (so it would not necessarily be the first or most valuable commission completed). Please note, it is NOT an agency fee, and It is NOT ongoing: if the client chooses to place any further work with Medievalbookshop after the first job, no further fee is payable. You are welcome to submit as many individual clients as you wish, but each will be subject to the same one-off status.

  • The fee is 5% of the final amount paid by the client. Quite often, this is not the same as the initial amount proposed for the job, and the 5% fee is payable only after the job is completed and signed off, when all queries have been resolved and cleared by the client, and after the client’s final payment has been cleared into medievalbookshop’s bank account.

  • No extra money is payable to cover any charges, taxes etc. resulting from the fee, so you accept responsibility for researching beforehand whether any expenses on your part will be sufficiently covered by the commission you receive, and you agree that Medievalbookshop will not be responsible for any shortfall. For example, if you request the money be paid to you through Paypal, you agree to pay their commission from your fee. You agree that you are are an independent entity, and not an employee or franchisee of Medievalbookshop, and that you retain full responsibility for declaring and meeting any income or other taxes or other obligations that may result.

  • The fee is subject to payment being cleared, so if the commission is cancelled without payment the 5% will not be payable. If the same client chooses to place further work then, and if the client agrees, a 5% fee may be payable on their next completed commission.

  • The fee is subject to medievalbookshop’s acceptance of a commission. No reason for refusal need be given, but reasons might include inability to carry out the required work, or inability to meet a required deadline. But I don’t turn down work just for the fun of it, and in such cases you’re welcome to re-submit the same client.

  • To avoid the potential for impropriety, you must not have any formal connection with the client, so you may not be an employee or shareholder of the client, and in particular you may not be a director or have similar direct influence. Just to avoid complete consistency, being a relative would not be a problem in most cases. Being a freelance contractor would be ok in most cases if your company has no other direct formal relationship with the proposed client. The 5% fee can be cancelled without further notice if any such relationship is later discovered, so please enquire if there’s any doubt.

  • You don’t have to be an individual — submissions are welcome from companies and partnerships on the same terms, with the particular emphasis that they should not have any formal relationship to the proposed client. In particular, they may not be shareholders, or parent or sub-companies of the proposed client, or other affiliate or corporate “ghosts”.

  • Agencies are welcome to take advantage of this offer on the one-off basis described above. If they prefer their normal terms to apply, these must be agreed separately and in that case this 5% offer will not apply. However, they are welcome to take advantage of this offer on individual clients, and negotiate their own terms for others.

  • It’s all got to be legal, so if skeletons are likely to come crawling out of the woodwork at a later date, let’s not just leave them there and hope for the best; Medievalbookshop will co-operate with investigating authorities and will not take the rap for anything on your behalf.

  • This is all subject to the proposed client’s agreement, so you may be required to supply documentary proof that your recommendation has led to the client placing the job. In most cases the client will mention your recommendation on first making contact and it will be sufficient if they state that your recommendation has led to their placing a commission, but this is something you should discuss with them beforehand. If the arrangement is accepted, then Medievalbookshop will confirm this to you in a thankyou email before work commences; if this email is not issued, or if the client denies all knowledge of you then the 5% will not be payable.

  • Errors & omissions excepted, naturally. This is a good faith arrangement, and I’d like to encourage you to submit further clients, so none of the above is an attempt to wriggle out of any agreement. If everything’s above board, and there’s no ambiguity, the fee’s payable.
