How to order this book
Located a few
kilometres to the south of central Delhi, is the sprawling complex
housing one of the capital’s best-known landmarks - the Qutb Minar.
Impressively ornate and beautifully calligraphed, this soaring tower of
medieval vintage attracts many visitors from all across the globe.
Though known primarily for the tower, the complex contains several
other monuments like the Alai Darwaza, Alai Minar, Iltutmish's tomb,
Alauddin Khalji's tomb and madrasa, and the Iron Pillar. This
illuminating book outlines the Qutb’s archaeological and historical
background highlighting the architectural and cultural contours of the
monuments inside the complex. The author takes readers on a wondrous
journey through temples, tombs, dargahs, step-wells and tanks,
gateways, madrasas, sarais, palaces, gardens, and mosques representing
different historical periods. The monuments surrounding the Qutb
Complex - Jamali Kamali mosque, Balban's tomb, Rajon ki Bain, Muhammad
Quli Khan's tomb, and those in Mehrauli - are also described. The
illustrations, layout plans, maps, and photographs provide an important
visual presentation of the monument for visitors who will also find the
glossary and practical tips very useful.
